How to send medicines to EU countries
Updated: March 2026. The information has been verified and is up to date for 2026.
If you need to send medicines to one of the European Union countries, it is important to review customs regulations and requirements for shipping pharmaceuticals in advance. Restrictions may depend on the composition of the medication, the destination country, and the quantity being shipped. GlobalPost helps organize fast and reliable international parcel delivery, including the shipment of medicines and medical products to EU countries with proper documentation.
What medicines can be shipped to EU countries?
Before sending medicines abroad, it is important to consider the customs restrictions of European Union countries. In most cases, only a small quantity of medicines for personal use is allowed. The medicines must be in their original packaging and include an instruction leaflet or composition details.
The following categories of medicines are usually allowed for shipping:
- Over-the-counter medicines (OTC) – fever reducers, pain relievers, cold and flu remedies, cough and sore throat medicines.
- Vitamins and dietary supplements – vitamin complexes, magnesium, vitamin C, vitamin D and other supplements in original packaging.
- Children’s medicines – cough syrups, fever-reducing medicines, rehydration products.
- First aid products – antiseptics, bandages and medical ointments.
Which medicines are usually prohibited from shipping
- prescription medicines;
- psychotropic and narcotic substances;
- medicines containing codeine;
- medications without original packaging.
In most cases medicines can only be shipped in small quantities – usually up to several packages for personal use. A limited number of medicine types is allowed in one parcel.
It is also recommended to check the restrictions of the destination country before shipping. For example, when shipping from Germany to Ukraine, additional requirements for medical products may apply. Following these rules helps avoid customs delays and ensures successful delivery.
