UPS and FedEx have announced peak surcharges for the 2026–2027 season. The first changes will take effect on September 21, 2026, and will apply to FedEx international shipments.

FedEx — What Changes and When

Starting September 21, 2026, FedEx will adjust the Demand Surcharge for international services from the US. For the first time, surcharges for non-standard shipments will also apply to international packages: Additional Handling, Oversize, and Unauthorized Charge. FedEx plans to publish peak international surcharge rates in early September.

Domestic surcharges will take effect on September 28:

  • Additional Handling: $8.80 (peak — $11.85)
  • Oversize: $95.75 (peak — $117.25)
  • Unauthorized Charge: $535 (peak — $595)

The peak period for these surcharges will run from November 23 through December 27, 2026.

Per-package surcharges will take effect on October 26:

  • Ground Residential and Home Delivery: $0.50 (peak — $0.80)
  • Ground Economy: $2.55 (peak — $4.05)
  • Overnight: $1.30 (peak — $2.55)

The FedEx domestic surcharge season will end on January 17, 2027.

UPS — What Changes and When

The UPS surcharge season will end on January 16, 2027.

What Does This Mean for Businesses?

For sellers on Amazon, Etsy, and eBay, logistics costs may increase at several stages — during international transportation and subsequent delivery within the US.

It is especially important to review the dimensions and packaging of large and non-standard shipments in advance. During peak season, Additional Handling, Oversize, Large Package, and other surcharges can significantly affect the final shipping cost. Businesses planning Q4 2026 shipments should therefore review their packaging, routes, and budgets before September 21.
