How to ship pallets abroad

Large or bulky goods are transported on wooden pallets. A pallet is a flat structure made of various types of wood. It is characterised by low cost, practicality and long service life. Pallets are actively used for transporting containers or a large number of parcels of the same type. Sending parcels on pallets simplifies the processes of loading, storage and transportation, as such packaging can be transported by various types of transport and stacked using forklifts. Palletised or palletised parcels, if properly packed and securely fastened, can easily travel the longest distances without damage or contamination.

Most often, standard wooden pallets, suitable for stacking, are used for sending goods. Sometimes there are plastic pallets.

It is better to send large groups of goods abroad in boxes, barrels, crates, bags, plastic containers. The main thing is that all parcels placed on the pallet should be of approximately the same type and size. It may be:

• ceramic tiles;
• food products;
• packaged loose items or products;
• finished products;

• industrial goods, etc.

How to prepare a pallet for shipping?

1. Stack the boxes correctly. The center of gravity should be located as low as possible to increase stability. Boxes with products can be stacked in a circle, starting from the outside and moving inward. Or stack the boxes with “bricks”.

2. Make sure the structure is strong and compact. Securely secure the parcels. Remember, non-stackable pallets incur additional charges and are at higher risk of damage. It is also worth considering that the pallet must withstand another pallet of the same type (often they are transported exactly one on top of the other).

3. Make sure the products are securely fastened to the pallet. To reduce the risk of damage, check that your goods are flat on the pallet and that the boxes are not hanging over the edge.

4. Wrap the pallet with plastic wrap. Stretch the packaging over the entire pallet to secure the items. You can also use straps/tape for extra protection.

5. Label the pallet. Make sure the labels are clearly visible. If shipping pallets are stacked, the sides of the pallets must also be labeled.
